
Leah Johnson, PhD, is a Senior Research Chemist in the Center for Engineered Systems at RTI International. Dr. Johnson’s research interests include the design and development of polymer-based biosensors and drug delivery systems and translation to early stage products. She currently leads a research group focused on the development long-acting biodegradable implants for prevention and treatment of HIV and as a multipurpose prevention technology. Dr. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Colorado. She completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biomedical Engineering at Duke University. Prior to joining RTI International in 2012, she served as a patent analyst at Lathrop & Gage Law Offices and also held a research position at Gilead Sciences.
